Writing Songs Part 3 – Get new inspiration!

In order to get new inspiration and to develop – break your habits!
If writing music comes easy for you, while writing lyrics is the difficult part of songwriting, you should start to write as much as possible. There is only one way to become good at writing lyrics. Write, write, write … Start each day with 5-10 minutes of writing, and write whatever comes into your mind. Do not burden yourself with demands that this writing must end up in a result, a song. Practice to get all your thoughts down on paper or computer. The more you can enjoy expressing yourself, rather than trying to be a brilliant songwriter, the better you will write.
Leave your words and phrases for a while. After a few days, read them again, and then maybe you will find one or two great lines that you can use for a song.
If you normally start with the music, playing some chords on your guitarr as a start – do the opposite. Start with a phrase or some words you like.
If lyrics normally is your starting point, try the other way and jam with some chords and melody. Let the tune and the beat lead your songwriting.
Listen to music you usually do not listen to. Try to copy something of the groove, the rythm, chords or melody. Jam along until you find something you like. Turn off the inspiration source, and start to write from that angel.
Good luck!
